Reading the Bible in your own language speaks directly to your deepest emotions and personal experience. It helps people to connect with God on a deeper level.
At the #Stpatrickonthehill Carols by Firelight service on 25 July 2026, the congregation donated sufficient funds to distribute 10 isiXhosa Bibles.
You too can take part in the St Patrick’s Bible drive by donating R120.
The donation can be made into the Chapel’s bank account.

Carols by Firelight
Visitors to the St Patrick-on-the-hill chapel, celebrated Carols by Firelight with nine lessons and carols on Saturday, 25 July 2025.
The nine lessons and carols service is a traditional Christmas Eve service that tells the story, through nine short Bible readings, focusing on the fall of humanity, the promise of the Messiah, and the birth of Jesus.
The narrative is alternated with the singing of Christmas carols.
We thank everybody (visitors and Hogsbackians alike) who joined us for our carol service.
St Patrick-on-the-hill hosts Lara Kirsten
Lara Kirsten’s Piano in Flower Tour was held at St Patrick-on-the-hill chapel on 4 July 2026.
Lara Kirsten, a gifted pianist and poet, warmed the chapel and delivered a masterful and soulful performance.
As an artist, Lara Kirsten is a talented pianist, piano teacher, and performance poet.
The programme included works by international composers, amongst others Edvard Grieg, Tchaikovsky, Ludovico Einaudi, and Hania Rani, that Lara presented with precision and emotional depth.
Additionally, Lara shared her original poems, showcasing her artistic range.

Women, more precious than jewels
On 25 March 2026, St Patrick-on-the-hill and Faith Cares presented a Women’s Day event at the chapel for women of the greater Hogsback community.
Ronel Davis from Faith Cares arranged this Women’s Day event in Hogsback because she is passionate about supporting women in our community. She sees every outreach as a chance to share love and the message of Jesus Christ, she explained.
During her devotion, she reflected on Proverbs 3:15 (ESV): She is more precious than jewels, and nothing you desire can compare with her. God’s wisdom helps us find peace and make good decisions, even in challenging times with our children, marriages, or finances.
By cooperating with organisations such as Faith Cares, the St Patrick-on-the-hill congregation makes a positive impact on the lives of the greater Hogsback community.
The ladies of St Patrick’s entertained the ladies with refreshments while Faith Cares gifted them with care packages.
